This two day course will consist of a combination of in-class lectures and instructor led hands-on exercises. One exercise will require students to inject themselves with a saline solution. This exercise is designed to afford students a better understanding of the injection process. In addition, this course is designed to provide basic education related to the condition of diabetes to unlicensed staff caring for clients who have diabetes. Participants who successfully complete this course will have knowledge of diabetes, nutrition needs, normal blood glucose ranges and recognition, treatment and prevention of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. They will also have knowledge of insulin and demonstrate insulin preparation and administration, storage and disposal.
